 | Baseball has never disappointed me as much as it has on this day. The Mets lost to the Marlins [of all the teams] by a score of 4-2, making for the 2nd strait year they have knocked the Mets out of the playoffs. Now because I live in south Florida this makes it twice as bad for me. My friends are going antagonize me for months. I’m never going to live this one down. For 2 straight years their team has knocked out the Mets. I could point out that their team gets 300 fans a game and are regarded as one of the worst teams in the league, but they won’t care. Making the Mets miss the playoffs is their world series. Those 8 people that follow the Marlins take enjoyment out of it. That makes me sick. But then again so does baseball. For the last 3 years the Mets have disappointed me. In ’06 they were so close but Yadiar Molina, the guy who hit about 5 homers all year hits the game winner to bury them, and now the Marlins take 2 of 3 from the Mets 2 straight years to kick us out. This is not the way to say goodbye to Shea. They were supposed to give it an October goodbye, but they couldn’t even do that. Well I guess it’s time to say goodbye old friend and goodbye to baseball, at least until next April.
Now hello to football and hockey. I’ll start with football. The defending super bowl champion Giants are getting off to a great start with a 3-0 record. They’re going to be without Plaxico Burres for next week’s game against the Seahawks, due to a one game suspension. Hopefully they can overcome that and win. The rest of the season looks bright especially with a healthy Burres. Also now Eli Manning has the confidence that he can win, which is a good recipe for success. My super bowl pick is Giants vs. Steelers with the G-MEN repeating as champions [hey a guy can dream can’t he].
As for hockey The Rangers are a completely revamped team this year. They let Jaromir Jagr and Sean Avery leave as free agents. But then signed Wade Redden, Dmitri Kalinin, Markus Naslund, and Nikolai Zherdev this offseason. They will all try to help bring the cup back to New York. But the key to this team is Henrik Lundqvist, or otherwise known in NY as King Henrik. If he struggles the whole team struggles. In the finals I predict it will be the Rangers vs. the Red Wings, with the Rangers coming out on top. |
